Hypnosis

Contrary to popular belief   Hypnosis is a natural state of the mind which we humans enter into on a regular basis: at least twice daily as we are slipping into or emerging from sleep.  You may be familiar with the state in a different setting.   Imagine you are driving on a long or familiar journey. You reach your destination, and yet you have no memory of passing a certain landmark.  Or,  remember a time when you were being entertained by something, like a television program  or a good book, and time seemed to pass more quickly than usual.  You were in a state of hypnosis!  A very relaxed state, in which one part of the mind can deal with the automatic processes such as driving or turning a page and yet the imagination is free to roam and explore different possibilities.

The therapist utilises this natural phenomena to guide you into a relaxed yet focussed state of mind, like that between sleeping and waking, in which the imaginative and feeling part of your mind is more active than the critical part of your mind.  When administered by a professionally qualified therapist it is a safe yet exceptionally powerful tool to help therapist and client identify, understand, and correct the root cause of a problem.

Simply entering into the state of hypnosis has wonderful benefits because it enables the mind to reach alpha and theta states which are the states of deep relaxation.  Our ordinary state of functioning is a beta state and when we are sleeping we access delta state. Below are some of the conditions that hypnotherapy can help with although this list is not exhaustive.
